As a rule, I remain unaware of most of the big game award shows, because they are mostly hype above substance. HOWEVER, Mark Hamill is up for the “Best Voice” award and this dude deserves to win. Not only is he THE Joker, but he’s a really cool guy to boot.

As I was made aware of this by my friend Mark Walters of Bigfanboy.com, I am linking both to his article as well as the voting page directly. Feel free to vote anywhere else you choose, but make sure you put Hamill on top for voice.

NVIDIA Auctions $10,000+ Uber-Rig for Charity

Posted by Tim On November - 20 - 2009

For those of you who check KNM on a regular basis, you know that I really don’t post a lot of press releases. This site is (mostly) about game reviews and my ramblings. However, every once in a while something jumps out at me because of its awesomeness, and this is one of those times. NVIDIA has built a ri-dic-u-lous rig and are auctioning it off for charity as of the time I’m posting this, its up around $4,000 with only about 18 bids. The auction ends in 4 days (Monday night/Tuesday morning around Midnight) so if you’ve got some cash you wanted to donate to a good cause, get in there and throw some bids down. I’ve lost family members to cancer, and this is a plague that can’t be eradicated fast enough!

Full Press Release below…

KNM Update 08/06/09

Posted by Tim On August - 6 - 2009

In the mess of things that has been my life that has been the job hunt, school, web designing, and looking at the logistics of setting up my own business, I have been lax in my posting duties. However, I have not been lax in my game playing! I will be posting reviews soon of several games, including

  • Mass Effect
  • Prototype
  • Mirror’s Edge
  • Eternal Sonata
  • Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
  • Assassin’s Creed

You should see me back on a regular posting schedule, because I’ve missed writing about the games I so love :) Plus, I will be posting demos periodically of a game I’m working on for school. This is my first game design class and so its essentially me learning how to code, so please be gentle. The demo itself will be in another post.

Thanks for continuing to check the site and be patient while I got my life back in order after my untimely layoff. Good gaming!

Press release below, but I just want to say that I am impressed with some of the releases that are getting the PhysX and now the 3D Vision Treatment. It seems like the number of titles are growing and from personal experience the feature sets are pretty good looking. From the pic below, the game looks utterly amazing.

And there is light at the end of the tunnel

Posted by Tim On June - 9 - 2009

So I’ve been sicker than hell the past week and I’m just now feeling better. Many of you can attest that I’ve not even logged on to XBox Live in over a week. Also, the job hunt has been running me ragged.

Anyways, I’ve got to put in some time and finish a couple hot reviews that peeps are waiting on now that I can string a sentence or two together. Give me a week and I’ll be back on track.

In a cool news event, I’m going to Terminal Reality tomorrow to do a focus test on their latest game. Don’t know what game, since Ghostbusters is already gold and primed to be shipped in a week. Don’t even know if I’ll be able to talk about it but I’m hoping its awesome. I’m impressed with their Infernal Engine and definitely will let you guys know whatever I can about it. I’ll see if I can’t sit someone down for a short interview while I’m there.

Aight – I’m off to bed. (Relatively) Early morning tomorrow.

Land of the Free and Home of the Unemployed

Posted by Tim On May - 14 - 2009

So the hammer finally fell today, making my life even more interesting. Walking into work, I am called into the boss-lady’s office and given the axe due to a reduction in force. I’m offered a severance and told to hit the road – thanks for these past five years of hard work but we just can’t keep paying you and still make ends meet. A story I’m sure a lot of you have heard in recent months. Interestingly enough, if you’re on the internet and have somehow found your way to my blog then you share my passion for gaming and all things video games.

Just to answer the obvious question, no I did not know about my layoff before making my last post. Even moreso now, though, I could use the donations so I shamelessly ask for help with school again. Look to your right and donate something, ANYTHING, to the cause. I promise you’ll be included on the credits on my first game (developed independantly).

Oddly enough, I’m generally disgruntled but the fury that I had at my last layoff hasn’t set in yet. This is not to say that it won’t at some future point. I mean, I plan on taking full advantage of my severance pay to take some much needed recoup time and really start off in the right direction… however I don’t harbor an abundance of ire and rancor for my former employer. The company is poorly run on almost every level and its a hundred other people’s fault that we lost the major customer that we did, yet I can’t seem to find it in me to get worked up over it. After so many years I suppose I just accepted that that was the way they are and that is what they will continue to be. If I’m ever in direct competition with them on some level, I will feel sorry for them as I will definitely use their weaknesses against them.

But that’s just good business.

Anyways, the severance offering isn’t bad. It will definitely allow me to put my affairs in order and begin the job-hunt anew. I am still going forward with my school plans. I will have until August to worry about next semester and I hope to have something going by then. I fully expect to have 3-4 weeks off at the minimum. Part of my package was to work with an outplacement company and I intend to take all classes they have to offer to help me along my way but I’m not in a hurry. I mean, I have a freakin’ baby on the way!

Yes I’m bummed and thank everyone for their condolences. Please don’t tell me you’re sorry about my job – you didn’t do anything. Also, I hate pity. If you’d like to give encouragement that would be awesome. Even a, “Dude, that sucks ass.” would be welcome.

One thing that this does mean is that I can totally start working on my game backlog, crank out some reviews undisturbed, and get some shiz done around the house. Our pool looks like a bog and our grass harbors giant gnomes that go undetected in the safari-style grass. Plus, it’ll be a good time to plan out the home networking and finish getting the library set up PLUS I can get a start brushing my math skillz off and working on my C++.

That’s it for the layoff day update. I look forward to seeing more of you, internets. We have been apart too, too long.
